About the Polish language

Polish is the official language of Poland and has around 45 million native speakers. Most of these live in Poland but there are a significant number who live in Belarus, Ukraine, Lithuania, and in emigrant communities around the world.

Polish is a West Slavic language, in the same group as Czech and Slovak.

So why learn Polish?

Travel
Poland is a beautiful country to visit and some knowledge of Polish will be appreciated and will make a visit more enjoyable.

Friendship and relationships
Now that Poland is a member of the European Union, many Poles have moved to other countries in search of employment, creating more opportunities for social interaction. If you can speak Polish you will also be able to integrate more easily with the families of Polish friends who may speak no other language.
